Year after year we are threatened with potential hosepipe bans, which if we are to believe the surrounding hype, will cause chaos around the country and ruin our beautiful British summertime. This year however, it seems these threats will be enforced nationwide.
After 15 months of below average rainfall, desperate water companies are making sure precautions are in place to avoid using standpipes and water tankers in residential streets, a common sight during the drought of 1976.
Now, 30 years on, is the time for everyone to focus on the solution, rather than the problem.
It’s been all to easy to point the finger at the many suffering water companies, who struggle to store our rainfall and cannot fix leaks quickly enough.
The wastage of water lies with all of us.
How often, for example do you brush your teeth and leave the tap running?
We don’t want to be told how to live our lives in the Twenty First Century, so this website isn’t here to preach. It’s here to show us new and potentially exciting ways to embrace this ban, think about saving water and adjust our everyday routines.
Sometimes the smallest changes can have the biggest social impacts. Therefore, each month we will focus on companies and individuals, who are using ingenious ways to conserve and save our precious water supply. These can be simple short term solutions we can all follow, or revolutionary ideas which will completely change our society. This is your voice-box. Let yourself be heard!
If you think you or your company is making a difference, contact us at info@hosepipe-ban.co.uk .
We will be happy to promote and share your ideas and suggestions, which we hope will help avoid further bans in forthcoming years.
